Dr. Subhash D. Awale takes over as Director, NITIE.

Dr. Subhash D. Awale has been appointed as Director, NITIE, Mumbai by Ministry of HRD,  Government of India, New Delhi.  He assumed charge as Director, NITIE w.e.f. 25/1/06 for a five year tenure. Earlier, Dr. S.D. Awale was  Joint Educational Adviser (Tech.), Government of India.  He was also  Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere between 2000-2005. He holds a B.E. (Civil), M.E. (Structures) Degree and Ph.D. from IIT Delhi in the field of Technical Education particularly on the most critical issues on Engineering Teachers. Read On...  

 

Samiksha 2006- ‘Indian Companies on a Global Acquisition Spree’

‘Samiksha’-panel discussion series was held on 11 Feb, 2006 at NITIE. The discussion is mainly aimed at providing an arena for studentcorporate interaction. This Samiksha saw active participation from students from across B-Schools.

No Looking Back

Keeping with the tradition, NITIE has made its presence felt in the various B-School rankings this year too.

  1. Cosmode Business World : NITIE is among the top ten business schools of the country. No rankings have been provided to the top ten B-Schools this year.
  2. AIMA RANKINGS : NITIE is ranked in the top ten or A+ (originally called Superleague category). On overall scores NITIE ranks 1st ahead of XLRI,MDI, SP Jain, etc.
  3. OUTLOOK CFORE Ranking : Overall rank-6th as per aggregate points

 Going by these rankings ,it is safe to conclude that NITIE's strive for excellence would only strengthen its position in the league of top B-Schools.

 

Indian Financial System - The future holds tremendous promise

 Samiksha, a panel discussion on Indian Financial System - Reflections on reforms and trends was held on 23rd July, 2005. The panel included stalwarts like Anand Shanbaug (Senior Analyst and Head of Research, HSBC securities), Atin Saha (Director, Private Wealth Management, Deutsche Bank AG),V.Ravi (CFO, MMFSL). Moderator was Sourav Majumdar (Deputy Exec Editor, Financial Express). "The future holds tremendous promise," was the unanimous sentiment that emerged from the discussion.

 

Marks Fete 2005 at NITIE, Mumbai
The Marketing Interest Group (MIG) of NITIE organized 'Marks fête' on August 27, 2005 , a one day intra Mumbai B school workshop on Marketing. Student participation came from top notch B-schools of Mumbai, viz. SP Jain, JBIMS, NMIMS, SJMSOM, TISS and the host NITIE. The panel evaluating the presentations consisted of Mr. Sujit Das Munshi, Executive Director AC Neilson and Mr. Parag Mohalikar, Former Research Director, ORG MARG, Mr. V Wabgaonkar, Strategic Planning Head, FCB Ulka and Mr. G. Dhananjayan, Vice President - Sales & Marketing, Hutchison Max Telecom Ltd., (Orange). The winner of the first session was the team from NMIMS while the second session was won by the team from NITIE.

 

MANDI: Learning Marketing Ideas the NITIE way…

The first year students of NITIE’s Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management (PGDIM) course undertook this unique sales exercise and were seen dressed in one of its kind Mandi t-shirts selling toys in different parts of Mumbai on Sunday, the 24th of July. The students were given an inspiring speech by the CEO of Bayer India, Mr. Rajesh Agarwal who also flagged off the event. Together the students managed to make sales worth  Rs.74, 000 in a single day itself!!

 

Road Ahead for Retail

 Samiksha shifted its focus back to marketing discussing the prospective and upcoming Retail Marketing Sector. The theme for this session was "Retail Marketing: The Challenges Ahead". Eminent speakers from varied sectors assembled to deliberate on the issue and present their views from their respective industry. The panelists for this session were:

Denovo' 2005
 The mood was electric, the environs festive and the ambience celebratory. The occasion was Denovo 2005. Approximately 200 students took part in the cultural extravaganza.           The Program started with enlightening and inspiring speech by Dr. Subhash D. Awale, Director of NITIE. As he waved the green flag, the event proceeded with a Fashion Parade on National Integration executed by the freshers. There were few traditional dance programme followed by classical Bhangra which urged the balle balle tempo among audience. A couple of solo and group singing performances made the environment melodious and forced audience to join the singers and dance on the beat.

 

Culturally Yours

The NITIE chapter of SPIC-MACAY helps the students understand, appreciate and enjoy Indian culture. Its mission is to promote the Indian Arts and Music among students to prevent it from going into oblivion. It arranged for a spell-bounding sarod session from maestro Pt. Brij Narayan and an enthralling kathak performance from exponent Ms. Sunaina Hazarilal.

Gone are the days when companies used to compete with each other. In this information age, they share the responsibilities as the business partners. , and the theme was Cultural Integration in Mergers & Acquisitions. It is essential to recognise the importance culture will play in the success of a merger or acquisition, and to assess how and where intervention is needed to ensure the smooth integration of two firms as otherwise it is well know that .80% of mergers never fulfil their expectations. Ms. Dipti Neelakantan, the COO of JM Morgan Stanley, was on campus for an interactive session on "The Science of Underwriting an IPO". The IPO scenario has consistently boomed with the growing confidence of the investors in the market. The learned speaker enlightened the students to the intricacies of this esoteric subject.

 

 

The Final Frontier

Everything in NITIE boils down to this – the final placement. Campus Recruitment Program (CRP) 2005 helped the students find the career of their dreams. It saw the students grill out for a week, competing with each other for some of the best job offers in the country. Company offers, Laterals, Pay packages et al - All the final statistics and numbers signified and justified NITIE’s premium standing among the B-schools of India.

 

Manufacturing emperor “Timken” Visits NITIE
W. R. "Tim" Timken, Jr.
, Chairman - Board of Directors, visited the flush green campus of NITIE on 23rd February 2005 and interacted with the faculty and students. Mr. Timken addressed the students on his journey in leading the change at The Timken Company. Talking about his company’s displacement from US, he explained why different companies are moving out of US. He was flamboyant in praising NITIE to say that he came to NITIE considering the technical background of students from NITIE.

 

 Get, Set, Go!
NITIEans also pride themselves on being excellent sportsmen. The seriousness with which these sports and games were taken up is to be seen to be believed. The Sports Tournament, with a wide range of disciplines, saw an overwhelming response from students of all three programs.

 

Getting out of the grind

The rigors of the academic schedule do not curb the students from having their share of fun. Festivals are celebrated with a lot of pomp and gaeity. The pomp of Ram leela, the lights of Diwali, the colors of Holi, the dances of Lohri - all become happy memoirs in every NITIEans life.

NITIEans rubbed shoulders with the best in various arenas of business simulation games across the country. These future managers earned laurels for themselves and brought glory to the institute by proving their mettle and making a mark at all the top B-school fests.

 

NITIE's Social Impact

Serving the society has been a tradition at NITIE. The Rotaract chapter of NITIE has regularly held blood donation and eye-checkup camps, cloth collection and vaccination drives and consultation clinics. These are the true heroes of NITIE whose efforts have brought a new meaning to life for those in need.

 

What's your Lakshya - Lakshya 2004

Lakshya 2004 was organized by the students of Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) of National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE).The program was held on 15th, to 17th October 2004. The program, aiming at achieving industry-institute interaction invoked large response from the length and breadth of the Indian Industry.

The inaugural session, on 15th morning, was graced by a galaxy of business stalwarts. Chief Guest, Dr. R. Chidambaram, Chief Scientific Advisor, Government of India handed over the coveted trophies. Mr. Sudeep Banerjee, Chairman, Board of Director, NITIE presided over the inauguration ceremony. Inspiring Solutions

Prerana 2004 saw phenomenal participation from the corporate world, the student community and the media, taking the scale of the event to dizzying heights. The Prerana Business Meet held at Intercontinental, The Grand saw deliberations on the topic "On top of change: The India Inc. Way.". The flagship event-Summer project contest spanning across 6 different modules justified the true aim of Prerana- corporate student interaction. Held in the sylvan environs of the Nitie lawns, The Prerana Business Quiz, hosted by the effervescent Parnab Mukherjee was a fitting finale to Prerana-04.

 

Golden Words

Mr. Rohan Narse, executive director, Goldman Sachs visited the campus for a B-Gyan talk. The lecture began with a brief introduction about Goldman Sachs, in particular his scope of work at the organization. The BRIC report was discussed upon. The talk ended on a positive note with the guest analyzing on how Indians fare far beyond their counterparts in the global arena in general.

The focus of the second Samiksha was on Investment Banking. Personalities from the field of banking and finance were invited to speak on the topic "Capital Structure and Valuation of Firm - Achieving the golden balance". The speakers who graced the occasion were:

The recruitment for summer internships for the IM-11, IE-34 and ISEM-4 batches was a huge success. A new system of slot offers was tried out which was well received by the students and companies alike. The performance from the students was outstanding and resulted in the best ever summer placements in NITIE.

Her valuable insights into the topic were appreciated by the audience

 

Differentiate and Die

Mr. Biju Dominique, VP, Mudra Communications was a bundle of energy and enthusiasm as he delivered a talk on Neuro-Marketing. The new success mantra in marketing defined by him is - differentiate a brand and it may die but make it consumer relevant and it will never die. His liveliness and dynamism made him a big hit with the students.

 

Diversification – The TATA Way

Mr. Deba Prasad Adhya & Mr. Ajit Rajgopalan from TATA STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT GROUP (TSMG) were in the campus for a talk on Corporate Diversification Strategy. The speakers talked about diversification, it’s evolution in the Indian context and the various possible approaches for it. The invigorating session which mesmerized the students, helped brighten up the rainy environs of Vihar Lake.

The new batch to NITIE was welcomed with an induction program that not only acted as an ice breaker but also made them aware of the campus life. Denovo 2004 proved that students coming to NITIE are not just of the academic turn of mind. It brought to the fore the amazing musical and histrionic talents of these aspiring managers.
