Life in the fast Lane
On the boulevards of learning
Let me travel
In the way, the mysteries of life
Let me unravel
My journey on this road called PGDIE-35 began on 27th June, when I found myself in between seventy odd friendly faces, waiting in syndicate III for professor to engage the class (rather disengage us from the lively chat we were having). Beneath their friendly exterior, one could sense a tiger-like attitude; aggressive, unrelenting and fiercely competitive. With only six tigresses, the tigers have six more reasons to be competitive. A broad view of the batch shows that mechanical engineers, constituting 35% of the batch of 74, outnumber all other branches. Big cats from computers and IT (20%), electronics (17%), instrumentation (7%), chemical (7%), production and industrial (7%) and other engineering branches (7%) inhabit rest of the terrain. Experienced students are like pre-baked cakes out to get the icing. There is one such cake for every fresh dough in the batch.
Academics are the life of any institute. The lectures in the classroom introduced us to the profession we have chosen, consciously or unconsciously (rather subconsciously). The excellent pedagogy motivates us to extend our learning beyond the four walls (, the ceiling and the floor) of the classroom. One can find groups of PGDIEans brainstorming a case and cracking it open, displaying the synchrony of their thought processes.
Studies have to be complemented with fun (or rather fun has to be complemented with studies). Hours spent at the coffee corner discussing hot issues, hostel room meetings, TT bouts, wet football, Gym workouts recharge the batteries of PGDIEans. On 9th July, Freshers' party came as a wonderful experience for all of us, where we got to know the senior IEans from close quarters. The 10000 W party was marked by wild dancing, free flowing fluids along with mouth watering delicacies.
Once again on 17th July, we took a break from the routine and drove off to scenic Khandala and ‘wet n wild’ Lonavala as a part of trip organised by the rotract club. After a day of fun and frolic, we came back with hoarse voices, drenched clothes but undampened spirits.
The most unforgettable day in NITIE so far has been 24th July, the day we organised Denovo, the showcase of talent hidden inside NITIEans. PGDIEans put up a great show with four dances, two songs, a fashion parade and a skit. In the end, the appreciation by the faculty rewarded the efforts that went into making the event a success.
Right now, our Lakshya is to tower high on 14-15th October and celebrate the organisational and managerial skills of PGDIEans. The excitement in the campus can only be felt and cannot be written in words.
This was an account of my first step on this road to success. The coming days would be an account of struggle. Struggle to achieve what the previous batches have achieved and better them; to reach the unexplored and conquer it; and above all create and sustain the brand called PGDIE; to take it to the heights where it truly deserves to be.
